So if you’ve been playing the AMotherThing home game (ie – following me on Instagram), you might have noticed a fairly BIG change lately. No, I’m not talking about how Dexter FINALLY let me cut his hair off, though he does look SO cute with his buzz cut…
He looks so much older, doesn’t he? It was such a shock when we finished up. I was totally against cutting his hair, but Mark thought it needed fixing. Dexter, for his part, refused to let us cut it because “I want to be like you, mommy!” Yep. Little man wants “Princess Hair” and wasn’t to be dissuaded.
That is… until…
Mommy got a hair cut.
Yep, after overdosing on a little too much Once Upon a Time (I have a massive girl crush on Ginnifer Goodwin, okay??), I made a hasty decision to go to the hairdresser. Armed with a photo of Ginnifer, I was ready to go for the chop. And Dex wanted to come, too. He said he was ready for a hair cut. So off we went together, and the little traitor decided at the last minute that he’d changed his mind. So I was left to face the big chop by myself. And despite the photo I gave her, the hairdresser was just a little too razor happy and took a LOT more hair than I’d intended. I was left with very little to style, which was frustrating since that was the whole point of getting the cut. Argh.
In the end, this was the result:
It doesn’t look bad or anything (friends have been VERY supportive in helping me not feel like a big-boobed boy), but it’s not at all what I envisioned. I had a very Lucille Ball-esque reaction to the cut when I woke up the next morning.
Yah, I was in a bit of shock. Three years, people! Three years of growing my hair out after hastily cutting it all off after Dexter was born! Ugh. I should have a shirt that reads, “I MAKE BAD DECISIONS.”
But hey, it’s only hair, right? And me and the kid now have a lovely bond in that we are both unhappy with the lengths of our hair. Oh, yah, did I forget to mention that as soon as we got home from the hairdresser, Dexter changed his mind AGAIN and made me buzz it off in our bathroom?? Ever try and give a long-haired toddler a haircut? Yah, I don’t recommend it.
Still… we bond, right?
SO ANYWAY… now comes the real point of this post. Which is to find some inspiration for how to style a pixie cut. Because I swear to you, other than sticking flowers in my hair, I’m kind of out of ideas. So I turn to the internet. That wonderful and magical place that provides exactly what you’re looking for when you need it. Give me some help!!
