Last week was the final result of a long-planned family vacation. Mark’s mom had been wanting to gather together all her kids and grandkids for a bit of a jaunt somewhere that we could all relax and have fun. The destination changed a few times, but in the end, we wound up traveling about five hours south to the beautiful town of St George, Utah, right near the Nevada/Arizona/Utah border.
We rented an amazing condo that fit our family nicely, and we spent lots of time cooking together, playing in the pool and visiting local attractions. But one of my favorite memories from the trip was getting out to Sand Hollow Reservoir and renting a WaveRunner for us all to try!
There were so many of us there (15 including the baby!), so we had to take turns to ensure that everyone got a chance to participate. We had an inflatable tube we towed behind so that the kids could have fun, too. And my husband even rented a wakeboard so that he could get his adrenaline fix!
Water safety is super important to us (as it should be!) so we made sure our kids wore life jackets at ALL times. My boys can’t swim yet, and normally they are scared of the water, but they had SO much fun that we couldn’t even drag them out! My oldest was kind of obsessed with the WaveRunner, so we have promised him that when he’s a little older we will get one so he can ride it any time.
I love that my kids get to grow up here where there is so much to do out in nature. Being on the water is second nature to my husband, but I grew up in the Allegheny Forest and spent most of my time hiking. That my kids get to experience both is hugely important to me.
But because I am not especially experienced on the water, I have to spend a lot of time looking online for educational resources about how to make things fun and safe! I was so excited when I heard about Discover Boating.
Discover Boating is a national program which helps people Get on the Water and experience the fun of boating. It is an unbiased online resource packed with easy, interactive features on all things boating, including a Boat Selector guide, cost comparison, renting options, youth boating programs, education courses – even nautical lingo and how-to videos. It’s even a great resource for experienced boaters!
With three little boys, I know my life is going to be filled with adventure the older they get. They are already huge outdoorsmen, and with our recent trip, they’ve discovered a previously unknown love for water sports. So I can’t wait to get them out again and teach them all about the fun to be had! We are planning a trip to Lake Powell next summer, and the husband wants to rent a boat to take us all out on! I know we are all excited to see that happen!
