Well it is an unfortunate fact that it’s been FAR too long since I have updated. As I mentioned in my last post, I was swept away on the supposed “holiday of a lifetime” at the end of last month, dropping Dexter with my parents while Mark and I took off on a week-long Caribbean cruise. And while there are some precious memories I was able to take away from this vacation, the unfortunate side-effect of all that fun was a kidney infection and a bout of post-holiday norovirus! Ick!
So here in Chez Reed, we all seem to be slowly recovering from a lurgy, and though we’ve been back almost a week, this is the first day I’ve been able to sit up and take nourishment, let alone update the ol’ blog.
But I DID want to update, because I had some exciting news to share.
Before going on holiday, I was gifted with some utterly fabulous workout gear by Davina For Next. And I was excited to try them out. In fact, going on holiday was an excellent opportunity to try them in several different environments.
Taking to heart, Davina’s tips for workout out in nature, I went for a blustery winter run in my native Pennsylvania, and I am proud to say that my duds kept me pretty warm with just a couple of modifications: A pair of wooly socks and some snow boots, as well as a tshirt underneath my sweatshirt. A pair of gloves were also necessary, but in all the outfit stood the test.
On the sunnier side of things, I was able to test out my glad rags in some of the hottest climates I’ve ever experienced. And to be honest, they were actually pretty good at wicking away the sweat that built up. And though both top and bottoms had adjustable bits that let me play with their length (meaning I could turn long joggers into culottes), I found them a bit too much to wear in the heat of the tropics.
I am proud to say, though, that I did manage to take a few laps on the deck of our ship, and I even took in a disco or two. And with all the Caribbean swimming, I definitely got out and about to exercise.
But then… there was the food…
If you’ve ever been on a cruise, you will know that the food is included in the price. And they have MILES of buffets, as well as restaurants and dining rooms. Most nights, we sat down together as a group and ordered three course meals, trying to get the most bang for our buck, so to speak. But I figured out on the first day that it would be FAR too easy to over-indulge in this sort of thing. So I promised not only to make healthier choices for my mains, but also to forgo dessert all together.
This meant that instead of a decadent slice of triple chocolate cake with a cocoa chaser, I could indulge in a salmon rose with a bit of tuna tartar.
And instead of the giant bacon cheeseburger with fries that my partner indulged in, I stuck into a broiled salmon with seasonal veg.
And rather than order the delicious sounding bacon mac n’ cheese I wanted, I had a cut of prime rib with plain jacket potato and some creamed spinach.
Frankly, it was the good decisions I made eating that allowed me to return from my holiday nearly 2 lbs LIGHTER than when I’d left! That’s right! I LOST WEIGHT ON HOLIDAY!
And it is all thanks to Davina keeping me honest.
In fact, just to do all the testing I could with the range, I even wore the entire workout outfit for the journey back home. We had a long day in various airports, and I thought it would be fun to see what the reaction would be if I wore the clothes OUTSIDE the gym.
So I posed with a few major celebrities I found hanging out at the Orlando Airport…
And then I hopped on my hog and took a ride on the wild side…
Cuz that’s how I roll…. with Davina for Next.
In all seriousness, I got so many compliments on my shoes while abroad. The faces that fell when they found out I was UK-based and got the shoes here were many. They definitely are a crowd pleaser.
And since I got back to the UK, I was VERY pleased to go through all the mail I’ve missed and find that the LOVELY people at Next have sent me my very own copy of Davina’s new Ultimate Target DVD. I am PUMPED to get stuck into that tomorrow, and I will be doing a video blog soon after to document my results.
In the mean time, if you want to keep up with the other ladies getting fit with Davina for Next, check them out:
