It’s that time of year again. My newsfeed is filled with back to school photos of all my friends’ kids. And I can’t help but notice that beneath the smiling veneer of relief and anticipation on each mom’s face, there is something else. It is that knowledge and understanding that in exchange for a few hours a day without kids, they are about to be inundated with a whole new level of stress.
It’ll begin with the early morning “get to school on time” routine, which involves screeching loudly at sleeping children to get out of bed and eat their breakfast. It spirals out of control when we realize that it’s almost time to leave and two of the three kids aren’t even out of their pajamas yet. It will involve hastily-packed lunch boxes and eat-on-the-go breakfasts. And nine times out of ten getting them to school on time will make us late for our own appointments.
And then there’s after school pick up. To get to them on time, we need to skip our lunch break or eat at our desk to ensure we get nine hours of work done in eight. We hightail it to school to pick up the first kid and get him to football practice before getting stuck in traffic on the way to pick up the second kid. We realize we have forgotten that it was our turn to bring the group snack to ballet class, and we don’t have time to hit the store before we need to get kid 3 to piano practice.
Somehow we muddle through everyone’s activities and make it home just in time for hubby to come in and ask what’s for dinner. We raid the fridge and throw ten things in a pot and hope that no one notices we forgot to make a side salad. We help with homework and listen to the middle child recite lines for the school play while reminding ourselves which kids have which activities tomorrow.
As the evening winds down, we get teeth brushed and baths taken and pajamas on. We read stories and give kisses and cuddles, and we bring in glasses of water while mentally reminding ourselves to wake the third kid up before we head to bed to make sure he uses the toilet again – just in case.
By this time, of course, there’s only about enough time to sit on the couch and watch a favorite TV show with the hubby before we need to set an alarm and get ready to do it all tomorrow.
How are we to survive the madness?
Luckily, there’s always time for a little indulgence. Like settling in with a delicious Chobani Flip. Whether at work or after hours, it is the perfect way to relax and take a breather when life just gets too fast.
Chobani Flip is a collection of sweet snacks that pair delicious Greek Yogurt with natural mix-ins. Enjoy Coffee Break Bliss – low-fat yogurt with biscotti pieces and chocolate. Or, a seasonal favorite – Pumpkin Harvest Flip – Pumpkin low-fat yogurt paired with pie crust pieces, glazed pumpkin seeds and pecans.
I was lucky enough to receive a few of the flavors to sample for my own busy life, and I can’t help but rave about them. They have been a lifesaver lately as I try and manage being a working mom again after four years of staying at home! My favorite at the moment is the delicious Almond Coco Loco! It features coconut yogurt with honey roasted salted almonds and dark chocolate!
And then there is the Key Lime Crumble! This one makes me nostalgic for our old life in Florida, and I can’t help but think how much better it would taste under a palm tree by the swimming pool. It features key lime yogurt with graham crackers and white chocolate. The sourness of the key lime pairs amazingly well with the sweet sweet chocolate. It definitely feels like an indulgence.
But probably my favorite this time of year is the autumn classic of Pumpkin Harvest Crisp. As mentioned, it is pumpkin low-fat yogurt paired with pie crust pieces, glazed pumpkin seeds and pecans. It tastes like orange leaves and cinnamon brooms!
I’m a huge fan of yogurt, whatever the reason, and these single serving portions are the perfect way to enjoy myself for a few minutes every day. No matter the variety, each and every cup of Chobani Greek Yogurt is made with fresh milk from cows not treated with rBST and proudly contains no artificial sweeteners, preservatives or flavors.
If you’re a busy mama, I’m sure you’ll agree that we need to take time for ourselves once in a while. What flavor would you love to take a break with?
