Have you seen that totally adorable video going around of the baby singing the Star Wars theme in his crib?? Every time I watch it, I smile so wide. I love seeing kids just being themselves when they think no one is watching. I think you get the realest sense of a person when they don’t know they are being observed.
Aside from a desire to spy on my kids, I have been really keen to buy a video baby monitor lately. Each of my kids has had some sort of VTech monitor when they were babies, each more sophisticated than the last. So when I found the new VTech VM343 video monitor, I was only too happy to upgrade our old audio set and sneakily insert the camera in the kids’ play room.
One of the biggest issues we’ve had with our audio monitors (aside from not being able to actually SEE what was happening at any given moment) was that we could hear the kids, but they couldn’t hear us. In fact, they used to run between rooms, listening to each other and then yelling REALLY loudly to try and get each other to hear. They didn’t quite understand the idea of one-sided conversations. But with the new monitor, we can easily converse with the kids! When a fight breaks out over a favorite toy (this happens far too often, to be honest), instead of going up two flights of stairs to break it up, I can simply press a button and talk to them about their disagreement. Or, if the baby is napping and begins fussing in his sleep, I can soothe him from another room instead of completely waking him up by going in.
The VTech’s Safe&Sound® VM343 Expandable Digital Video Baby Monitor with Pan & Tilt Camera and Automatic Night Vision means I can see my kids any time. It features full color, high resolution video which I can monitor from the large 4.3 inch LCD screen. The camera is controllable from the monitor. I can pan around the room up to 270 degrees or tilt up and down up to 120 degrees!
And while right now we only have one camera, you can expand up to FOUR, which means I could put one in all three kid’s rooms AND in the play room! And since it comes standard with up to 1,000 feet range, I can even monitor them on the second floor from my basement office.
So far I haven’t had the chance to see my kids exhibiting any amazing talents or discovered any entertaining behavior. But I did manage to capture this sweet moment between my husband and our three year old son. It’s not often that daddy has a chance to just relax and read to the kids, so seeing how happy they both were really brought a tear to my eyes.
Of course once the kids discovered the video camera, they immediately took turns making silly faces into it. But even that was awfully fun to watch.
I look forward to watching my kids through the awesome VTech monitor, and I am hoping to see something truly special at some point. But for now, I am content knowing that I can ensure they are safe and happy at all times.
