There’s nothing I like more than crafting with my kiddos these days. Last weekend, I decided to let go of my inner control freak and let Dexter (and Daniel!) help to make and decorate some Christmas ornaments for the tree. It was a little bit messy, a tiny bit out of control and a whole lot of fun.
We used some Sculpey clay that I bought cheap at WalMart, and after I rolled it out to about half an inch, I let Dexter use Christmas-themed cookie cutters to get the shapes. He LOVED it. We put all the shapes on a tray and I baked them according to the directions on the package.
After they were done, I took them out to cool while Dex and I played with scissors and glue to make some fun paper chains!
Once the ornaments cooled, we grabbed them up, along with some craft paint, glittery glue and some bits and bobs, and we all set to work.
The results were thrilling (or at least they were to me, seeing my kids get crafty for the first time!). I loved the way they all turned out.
We let Dex hang some on the tree after they dried, and he loves saying, “I made this!”
After the ornaments were done, we used foam and felt and lots of glue to create some cute Christmas tree decorations for the front door. It makes his day to go and see all his handiwork decorating the house.
So now I’ve created a monster who loves to craft as much as I do. And since we just sold our kitchen table with plans to get a new one, we are only left with a tiny little table to work at. I’m hoping to find a childrens learn and play desk that will serve as his own crafting station in the future. Maybe Santa will bring him one this year!
