It’s been a while since I’ve posted a beauty hack, and I’m always a fan of homemade moisturizers. So I thought I’d share this simple Citrus Body Butter I’ve been using for the last few weeks. Given my severe dry skin and the fact I live in the desert, I tend to keep jars of coconut oil in my bathroom at all times. It works so much better than the lotions I buy in the store, and it has loads of healing properties that make my skin feel amazing.
Adding a few essential oils and some fresh citrus zests gives it an extra pep that helps invigorate me at the same time.
Here’s what you’ll need. I’ve helpfully affiliate linked them to Amazon for you, so you can buy them if you want to give this a try yourself.
Making the body butter is seriously simple. The first thing you’ll want to do is to scoop out your coconut oil into a microwave safe bowl and then heat it up for 15-20 seconds until it’s nice and soft. Liquid is best, but as long as it’s lump free, you’re good. Stir it if you need to – don’t heat for too long, though, as it will burn you.
Add in the three fruit zests and then the essential oil drops. Stir it together until it’s nicely combined. You’ll see the flecks of orange and yellow and green, and you’ll think it’s soooo pretty.
Place the mixture into the refrigerator for a few minutes so that it can solidify a little. You’ll know it’s ready when you can press on it and leave an indentation. Remove from the fridge and then scoop into a mixing bowl or a stand up mixer. Whip it until the entire thing is creamy and fluffy.
Spoon it all into a nice jar or bottle with a tight lid. If you want to be fancy, tie a ribbon around the neck of the jar.
Keep it in a cool location.
The health benefits of Orange Essential Oil can be attributed to its properties as an anti-inflammatory, antidepressant, antispasmodic, antiseptic, aphrodisiac, carminative, diuretic, tonic, sedative and cholagogue substance.
The benefits of Lemon Oil include its ability to treat stress disorders, fever, infections, asthma, obesity, insomnia, skin disorders, hair conditions, stomach problems and tiredness.
