This post is sponsored by Mattel, but all opinions are my own.
Even though I was a full-on college-aged adult when HARRY POTTER™ came out, I’ve been a die-hard fan every step of the way. Not only is JK Rowling a personal inspiration to me, but the characters she’s created have become a worldwide phenomenon that all ages can relate to. It’s crazy to think that I am now sharing these same characters with my kids, reading the books with them and making our way through each film as they get older. And now, we get to experience the magic of the Wizarding World through these incredible new Harry Potter dolls from Mattel!
My kids are huge fans of the Harry Potter franchise, and with four boys, they have each sorted themselves into their own house. My five year old is definitely living up to the GRYFFINDOR name, as he is fearless and always there to protect his brothers. The seven year old insists he’s a RAVENCLAW because he’s smart and thinks logically. My three year old always wants to be the “bad guy” in their games, so he is most definitely a SLYTHERIN. And that leaves our 8 month old baby as the HUFFLEPUFF.
With vivid imaginations, the boys have been completely taken over by Potter-mania. Every time I turn around, they are pulling sticks from the bushes to use as magic wands, and they’re calling out Expecto Patronum!
In fact, I had to break my oldest son’s heart recently when he revealed that it was his life’s goal to be a QUIDDITCH player! Oh, how his face fell when I explained that flying brooms are only imaginary! Thankfully he’s quite happy to jump on a branch and jump around the backyard to get his Quidditch fix!
And now, he’s even begun to create accessories for his doll by using found objects! Like this small stick with some pine needles on it for a broom and a small pine cone for a ball!
We even built a cardboard “HOGWARTS” from some boxes and paper rolls! You can imagine the fun we had with that one! And I love the mix of store-bought toys and homemade toys to really get the imagination going! You can see how to make your own cardboard castle with what you have on hand!
With Halloween coming soon, Dexter has already asked if he can dress up as Harry Potter, and the other boys are contemplating going as RON and DRACO. How awesome would that be!?
I have to say how much cooler toys are nowadays than when I was a kid. I would have loved to have been able to play with a GINNY WEASLEY toy!
Mattel really knows what they’re doing. These figures are inspired by the films and are intended for ages 6+. You can collect each of your favorite characters to get the whole gang together. They are amazing for collaborative play between children, and they have really been bringing my oldest two boys together to do something other than playing video games!
Every doll comes with their own personalized wands and a Hogwarts uniform. My kids have even figured out how to get extra characters by using their cloaks as “Dementors!” All dolls have eleven “joints” – in the neck, shoulders, hips, knees, elbows and wrists, so you can pose them in all sorts of ways. My five year old spent half an hour moving Ginny’s wrists around to try and get the exact motions for Wingardium Leviosa!
If you have a Harry Potter fan in your life, you simply HAVE to get to Walmart and collect the whole set.
