Fashion Friday – Wild Thing

Happy New Year, folks! I have so many big big plans for 2016, and one of them is to be more regular with my blogging AND more “me.” For a long time now I’ve been trying to appeal to every person who might potentially come across this site, and as such I’ve taken “me” out of it! This year, I want to share more about who I am as a mom – but also who I am as a WOMAN.

To that end, I decided to try some new features. Every Friday, I am going to jump in with a fashion feature. I’m working hard toward becoming healthier (and yes, that includes some weight loss goals), and I really want to take better care of me. Part of that is indulging in my love of fashion. I’ve always had a left of the middle style that appeals to some, while others find me vulgar or just plain weird. But I enjoy putting outfits together, and it’s a nice little me-time treat to find a new article of clothing that really flatters.

So today is my first ever Fashion Friday, and I hope you enjoy it!  The theme is “Wild Thing.”

This is a rather simple outfit. The dress is Red & Black Plaid Dress from Hot Topic, and it’s super cute. It’s extremely thin and soft and lovely, but it is really amazing to wear. I got size XL, which was the biggest they had, and it fit nicely, though it was slightly tight getting it on and off. Once on, it was super comfy, but there’s no stretch so be sure not to rip or tear it!

You may wonder why I’m holding a fez… I’m a big Doctor Who fan, and my husband bought me a fez for Christmas (again from Hot Topic), and I’ve kind of been wearing it everywhere because I’m a huge dork. But I love it. I want to find a way to make a fez purse because honestly, wouldn’t that be SO cool and stylish?? No? Just me? Okay. Moving on.

The leggings were on clearance at Torrid, and they are SOOO nice. REALLY comfy (if you are plus size, you NEED to buy plus size leggings – they make ALL the difference, I swear!), and how cute is the detail?? They lace up on the outer calf, and they just add so much to such a basic item.

The belt is one I bought ages ago at Nordstrom Rack. I think it was JJ Winters, but I can’t be sure without checking.

And my shoes are super cute, too! They were from Shopko, and I bought them last New Years Eve when I was in need of red shoes to match my red sweater!

I really love the whole look of this outfit (with or without the fez!) because it’s super simple, but it makes me feel great. I loved Hot Topic when I was a teenager, and while it has changed a lot over the years, I love that I can still find things that suit my personality so well. And discovering Torrid has opened me up to some SUPER awesome shopping potential. Of course, my HOPE is that I will lose weight and not need to shop plus size in the future, but right now I love that I can look stylish in clothes that suit my shape. I may have just ordered a ton more from them…

Stay tuned next week for another Fashion Friday and feel free to join in! If you do fashion posts (especially plus sized!), leave a link for me in the comments! I’d LOVE to see what you all have going on.
