The first time I ever had fried mac and cheese balls, it was at a kids restaurant, and I only ordered it as I was exceptionally curious as to what the heck they actually WERE. But once I’d bitten in to those gorgeously gooey orbs, I was hooked. I knew that it was my duty to try and create my own at home.
The result was a crunchy-on-the-outside/cheesy-and-gooey-on-the-inside yumtastic family treat.
The beauty of this recipe is that you can use ANY mac and cheese recipe you like. You can use leftovers from last night, or you can even get out the Kraft or Velveeta varieties clogging up your cupboards. The truth is that whatever your favorite mac and cheese is, it’ll work!
Just make sure you have about four cups of mac and cheese to work with and that it is cold. Keep it in the fridge for a few hours to make it easier to work with.
These are great served by themselves, but some people like to dip them in alfredo or marinara sauce. I prefer a little cheese sauce garnish on the plate.
