Have you heard of Green Chef? A while back, I saw an ad on Facebook for this food delivery service that promised healthy food sent straight to your home. They promised food that was fresh, organic and sustainable, responsibly sourced and most of all – DELICIOUS.
I had to try it. I contacted the company and asked them to send me a box. They were gracious enough to do so, and I received one of their Carnivore boxes with everything I needed to create three delicious meals for two people. The Green Chef service has four different plans available. Vegetarian gets you 3 vegetarian recipes each week. Omnivore is a mix of meat, seafood and veggie meals. Gluten-free is also meat, seafood and veggie, but it is of course gluten free. And the Carnivore box is a mix of meat and seafood dishes.
When I received my box, I was blown away by it. The packaging was perfect. I wasn’t home when the box arrived, but I needn’t have worried. That thing could have stayed outside for a day or two and been fine. Inside was everything I needed for the meals I would be making. Everything is pre-measured and ready to rock. My only concern when I saw everything was that everything was individually wrapped. As a person who is concerned about the environment, I worry about unnecessary packaging. However, Green Chef have thought about that, too, and all of the packaging is eco-friendly. It was a weight off my mind, as I kept thinking about not just the quality of the food I was eating, but the impact it would have on the environment.
One of the things I LOVE about Green Chef is that there’s no food wastage. Everything is portioned out so that you have only what you need for that recipe. Since we end up throwing away a lot of food each week because it doesn’t get eaten in time, this was a HUGE bonus for me.
The first meal I made was an amazing dish of BBQ Bacon Cheddar Burger and Carrot Chips. This was a HUGE hit in our house. It was delicious. We thought we’d have a little fun with it and do a family cooking show as we cooked it. Every meal is supposed to take around 30 minutes, and I figured it would be fun to show how this type of service actually works in a REAL home. Our kitchen is SUPER tiny with bad lighting and is always full of kids and toys. We have no counter space. So even with all of that against us, we were able to make a really awesome meal that made us all really happy. You can see the video below. Again, forgive me – the lighting was terrible.
The next meal we made was the Cajun Shrimp with Holy Trinity Orzo Pilaf. It was so delicious! I took step by step photos as we went, and again the whole family got involved. My four year old LOVED cutting up the green onions with a plastic knife.
Seriously, how good does this look? It was an amazing meal that I NEVER would have thought to make myself. In fact, it is something I wouldn’t have even ordered in a restaurant. But having tried it, both Mark and I were blown away by the complexity of flavors, how good it looked and how easy and fast it was to make. It truly was an unexpected surprise.
Doesn’t it look like something you’d order from a restaurant? It was honestly so good. I’d make it again in a heartbeat!
The final meal we made was Spinach Stuffed Chicken with Gremalata and Lemon Tahini, Chick Pea and Green Bean Salad. Again, it was a big hit. I don’t even like green beans, and I ate every bite!
