Raising three boys is a tough gig. Especially when they’re so close in age, and none are yet in school. I absolutely love being a full time mom, but it does get stressful when you have to spend each day trying to find the right foods to appeal to three very different appetites and make sure that each gets the right nutrition to continue growing well.
Right now, my older two are the hardest ones. Baby Chester will literally eat anything you give him and ask for more. But Dexter and Daniel are two very picky eaters who change their likes and dislikes like changing their clothes. As you can imagine, they are on the lower end of the growth charts, with their weights being somewhat lower than average.
On Dexter’s fourth birthday, he weighed 40 lbs, which made him eligible (along with height and age) to move to a booster seat rather than a car seat. He was so excited. Now, though, he is five and a half, and he weighs only 39 lbs! In over a year, he actually LOST weight. While the doctors aren’t too concerned, they did suggest supplementing his food with PediaSure® Grow & Gain to help him put on a couple of pounds. I was skeptical at first because he’s so picky, but luckily there are several flavors for him to choose from, including chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, berry and banana!
Available at Walmart, these shakes are perfect for integrating into your kids’ diets in a fun and exciting way. Not only are they delicious all by themselves, but you can also use them in some classic kid-friendly recipes!
For instance, you can use a packet of instant oatmeal mixed with 2/3 cup PediaSure® Grow and Gain Strawberry shake to cook up a delicious breakfast for your child. This is actually Dan’s favorite new food, and I can’t wait to try it with other flavors soon!
Dexter is a little trickier as he doesn’t really enjoy oatmeal. So I’ve taken to making him a delicious version of Mac & Cheese instead! Here’s the yummy recipe:
1 bottle PediaSureGrow & Gain Vanilla
2 cups elbow macaroni, enriched
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1 cup cheddar cheese, grated
1 tablespoon butter
1⁄4 teaspoon salt
1⁄4 teaspoon pepper
In a medium saucepan, boil the macaroni until cooked. Drain well. In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt butter, then add flour, stirring constantly until a smooth paste forms. Slowly add PediaSure, continuing to stir constantly until well blended andsmooth (do not boil).
Remove from heat. Add salt, pepper, cheese, and cooked macaroni to the mixture and mix thoroughly.
