A few weeks ago, I introduced you to the amazing Gerber 3rd Foods Lil’ Bits featuring perfectly sized soft pieces of fruits and veggies to help your child grow. Now that we’ve been using them for a while, I’ve realized how much they have benefitted not just my beautiful baby boy, but our whole family.
As Chester learns and grows, changing every day as he discovers new skills, I have found that meal time has become an opportunity for real bonding. Whereas previously we would have to spend up to half an hour feeding him a tub of food, he now is chewing like a pro and often wants to mix and match flavors. The beauty of Gerber 3rd Foods is that they are super convenient for just such behavior. The little plastic tubs are portable and easy to reseal if he doesn’t want the whole thing in one sitting. This allows us to mix and match his favorite foods just as if he was eating from the table!
It also gives the family an opportunity to sit together at least once a day and really converse. My older boys love asking questions of their baby brother and waiting to see his baby-babble response. They even have started taking it in turn to help feed baby Chester, hardly even making a mess now!
I also love how simple and convenient it is to have them on hand for unexpected delays. I tend to keep a couple of tubs in my purse for when we’re caught out of the house and he gets really hungry. And the fact that it has actual chunks of food in it means he gets filled up faster and for longer. This is great for making sure he doesn’t get too cranky.
There is one thing that I will mention, as well, that really makes me love this. My oldest son, Dexter, is a truly picky eater. If it’s not chocolate or mac and cheese, he basically won’t touch it. My middle son, Daniel, however is a health nut and prefers things like peppers, lettuce and cottage cheese. He can be equally picky, though on the other side of the spectrum to Dex.
Gerber 3rd Foods has some varied flavors that you can introduce to your baby when they’re young and impressionable. It will help to develop his palate and allow him to be more open to new foods as he grows. Anyone who has dealt with a picky eater will know how important this is!
I guess the point of this is to say that my baby is not really a baby anymore. He has grown now into his early toddler years, and soon he will be feeding himself, walking by himself and communicating with us. I love that he’s growing up, but part of me is not ready for it. I cherish the times I get to feed him and see his little face light up as I do the “airplane” maneuver with his favorite spoon. I adore bathing him and clearing up all the spilled food that has made its way into all the nooks and crannies of his tiny body.
So here’s to the next stage… but not too quickly, please!
