Our friends at the Next Blogger Network have set us a challenge. With the coveted reward being a ticket the the FABULOUS Elle Style Awards in London, as well as the after party, they have asked us to recreate our favourite red carpet look from last year’s awards using items from the Next range.
As a huge fan of Next, I took on the challenge gladly, scrolling through some of the beautiful celebrities and settling my eyes on the GOR-JUSS Thandie Newton.
As a *ahem* matronly sort, I loved that her particular outfit could actually be rocked not only by her tiny body, but by someone like me, too! The V-Neck is totally flattering to my hefty chest, and the loose fit can hide a multitude of sins. I love the cheeky show of her leg – not overtly sexy but just alluring enough to catch someone’s eye. The shoes and clutch are perfect for setting off the outfit, and her makeup and glowing skin are to DIE for.
So how would I fare picking an outfit that is similar and that could be worn by small and curvy girls alike?
While I really loved the block colour on her dress with the bold print, I went for something slightly different. The LK Bennett dress has wider straps and less of a plunging neckline, which would help me out immensely. And because I would be afraid of tripping in such a long dress, I chose a shorter version, which I still think is more alluring than sexy.
Of course, with such an outfit, it would be necessary to have something to hold one in, so I chose a miracle suit to make sure there are no bumps or bulges. I love the strappy sandals which match the dress, and the nude clutch is the perfect thing to accentuate rather than detract from the outfit. And while Thandie is rockin’ that belt, I have chosen something to help accentuate the waste and bring out that hourglass figure I so elegantly rock!

3. Black Snake Effect Waist Belt – £12
5. Miracle Backless Body – £41
But there’s more! Some of us aren’t natrually blessed with Thandie’s gorgeously glowing skin, so we need a little help. The Transformulas Hydration Gold should help a lady’s face look dewey and perfect. And for that perfect tan, let’s skip the sunbeds and use the Makebelieve Airbrush Bronzer. With a smokey eye and pouty red lip, we finish the look off right with a standout nail colour by Models Own. Thandie is sporting black, but I would probably grab a bold red to really make that monochrome look POP.
2.DuWop Twilight Venom Red Stain – £15
3. Models Own Nail Polish Gift Set – £20
4. Models Own Smokey Eye Kit Seduce – £8
5. Makebelieve Airbrush Bronzer 200ml – £30
While no one asked me to choose an outfit *I* would/could wear, I did so because I love the idea that I can easily find an off-the-rack look to suit me, even when I’m not at my skinniest. Style isn’t about WHAT you wear, after all. It’s about HOW you wear it… and if you’re not confident in your choice, you’ll never look your best.
