One of the hardest things about being a father and working full time is not getting enough time seeing my baby boy. Right now I have a two hour commute and I work hard at my job because I have a lot of people relying on me. So often I get home quite late. And I feel like I don’t get enough time with Dexter. And one of the worst things is when I get home I want to veg out for half an hour!
But… if I did that, I would get maybe… twenty minutes a day with him.
So if you can, think about before your child comes, moving closer to work or getting a job closer because I would do anything to have the extra time with Dexter and have it be QUALITY time, not just tired from a long drive home.
However! At least the weekends I get to devote as much time as possible to Dexter and I’m usually catching up on his milestones that his mommy has already seen during the week. Luckily I’ve had a few of my own that I’ve seen, which is quite nice. Like his belly button falling off… And him blowing raspberries.
Even though I’m completely exhausted at 3:00 AM when I get up to feed him, it is SO special giving him food and watching him fall back asleep knowing that it’s just me and him alone and I’M providing for him. The only downside is when he gets me up more than two times a night! And I know I have a long day of work ahead of me.
