Ideas for Newborn Baby Photos

Today is the day… The day I have been looking forward to since February, when we first discovered I was pregnant. The official due date of my precious last little baby boy. I had been counting down the days through the spring, summer and fall, and I was anticipating my little mid-November baby.

The funny thing is that I have a thing about November 12th. Something awful happened on this day many years ago, and knowing that my guy was due on this date made me look forward to the day for the first time in 13 years.

But obviously, we never made it. Baby Chester was born October 22nd, and so today, instead of holding a squirming and bloody baby in my arms, I hold a contented three week old. He is truly such a happy, wonderful baby. He is growing so well. Despite our initial worries about his feeding, blood sugars and jaundice, he is now so utterly perfect. He is only in the 10th percentile for size, but he is healthy and well. And to be honest, since he is my last, I want this baby stage to last as long as possible.

I did a video update about Chester’s progress and how the boys are dealing with being big brothers last week, but I forgot to post it! So here’s the two-week update for those interested.

I’ve also been doing daily photos of my little guy, as he lays in his playpen on a red blanket. I didn’t intend to start a photo series, but as more people told me I ought to continue, I’ve had fun documenting the day to day growth of my awesome little dude. If you want to keep up with us on Instagram, the hashtag is #RedBlanketBaby.

I also intend to do weekly and monthly photos of Chester with his super cute lamb which we were sent by the folks at Bunnies By the Bay. Having a photo prop (especially one he loves so much!) makes it so much easier to show his growth and the changes over time.

This little lamb also plays music (Mary Had a Little Lamb), though unfortunately ours stopped working after only twice winding it up. Still, it remains a firm favorite of our little guy. He just loves staring at it and reaching out to grab it. I have to hide it from the older kids, as well, or they will abscond with it!

I’m absolutely loving these photos, and I would love some further ideas if you have them! What are your favorite props, backgrounds, outfits, etc for newborns?

Ah I love your red blanket photos! I wish I'd thought to do some with Elsie and something to compare her growth. Might start today!! This was my original due date too although the hospital amended it to the 9th, which I found very difficult. I woke up that day in tears and found it so hard to get through the day. But the 12th was different. I felt happy and blessed that she was already here and I have to say it's been nice to share the jourey with you. I hope we'll still be in touch when they're all grown up!! Chester is so beautiufl :) x x x x x

What a little cutie! Love your pictures. I've seen people dress their babies as superheroes with a cape 'flapping' behind & a background of a cloudy sky. Maybe look on Pinterest for ideas xx
