While it could have gone either way with a mother from California and a father from rural Pennsylvania, there’s no denying that in our family, we wave The Terrible Towel for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Watching football growing up was almost like going to church. Before I ever knew or understood what the game was all about, I knew enough to cheer for the boys in Black and Gold.
With my birthday at the end of January, I can recall several times in my childhood when my father would invite his buddies over, buy a football-themed cake and throw me a Superbowl-themed birthday party! It wasn’t the Princess Barbie Tea Party theme I would have chosen, but I enjoyed myself anyway.
Now that I’m older with a family of my own, I love to throw on my favorite Pittsburgh jersey and gather the kids to sit and watch my team every Sunday. Though they are very young, they can recognize the Pittsburgh logo when they see it, and often you can find them yelling, “GO STEELERS!” at random Steeler-adorned trucks passing by. It makes me proud.
So imagine how proud I am when I check the Jersey Report by DICK’S Sporting Goods and see Antonio Brown leading the charge for most sought-after jerseys this week (he’s #4 for the year)? Le’Veon Bell isn’t far behind at number 5 this week, though he doesn’t appear on the season rankings. As far as team rankings, Pittsburgh comes in at #3! It just goes to show that we aren’t alone in our love of the Steel City!
Of course that could change at any time, as the Jersey Report is an ever-changing thing. DICK’S Sporting Goods sells the latest NFL jerseys, and the sales aggregate into the Jersey Report. Data points are available for Overall, Defense, Offense, Rookie and Team rankings by Week, 30 Days and Season (which starts on draft day).
Check it out here:
Now that I know about the Jersey Report, I can’t wait to follow my team for the rest of the season! Pittsburgh’s been doing well lately, and they are AFC North champs (holla!), and if they go further (as I will be hoping for!), perhaps they’ll even move up the ranks to beat out those hated Patriots! If not, there’s always next year.
