If your kids are as tech savvy as mine are, you may find that they want to steal your phone and/or tablet for their own nefarious purposes far too often. Dexter just turned four this week, and I was really feeling like my boy was growing far too fast. So when he asked to steal my phone to play yet another game, I was somewhat teary eyed. But I have to admit, I was really pleased to be able to offer him a very child-friendly app that was fun and educational and didn’t feel like something out of the ordinary for a kid his age to be playing. Enter the Mickey’s Magical Arts World App.
This amazing new app just debuted on the Apple iTunes store, and it is so much fun. There’s nothing that Dexter loves more than making noise and being creative, and this app offers him the chance to do all of that without actually making a mess or waking up the baby! It is meant for kids aged 3 – 8, so it’s perfect for him. Disney Imagicademy is the first comprehensive brand of interactive and connected early learning experiences that combines the Disney characters and stories families love, with a research-driven curriculum developed in conjunction with top academics and education experts. In short – it’s an amazing way to give your kids the freedom to play and learn at the same time.
The apps and products cover key subject matters that are important for early childhood development, including math, creative arts, science, reading and social and emotional skills. There’s even a companion app (Disney Imagicademy Parents) so that you can monitor your child’s learning.
There are five sections to the app, each with its own theme and value.
In this section, your child is given coloring book pages and every color and tool to create their own masterpiece. Dexter LOVED drawing and redrawing his characters, as well as choosing other pages to paint.
Suggested activity for afterward: Give your child some real crayons and paper and see what they come up with!
COSTUME & MOVIES
Choose your character, style them with hair and costumes and then watch them come to life in animated movie sequences!
Suggested activity for afterward: Have your child create a costume based on a subject you give him. See how he translates your prompt into something creative!
Choose a toy animal, dip them in a pot of your favorite decoration and then dress them up for someone to adopt! Such fun. Dexter loved dipping his toy goat in sprinkles and cheese!
Suggested activity for afterward: Draw the outline of a toy on a piece of construction paper and then let your child decorate it with glitter, paint, and other art supplies.
Minnie’s moved to a new neighborhood, and now she wants to revamp the whole neighborhood. Your child helps choose new house colors, and even adds windows, mailboxes, etc to make each home special.
Suggested activity for afterward: Use wooden popsicle sticks to create little houses with your child.
Help Mickey get the marching band ready for their parade. Help them pick a song, choose band members to play the song and choose how fast or slow it’s played. The songs will record so that you can listen to your masterpiece over and over!
Suggested activity for afterward: Ask your child to sing a favorite song and record it on your phone. It’s a lovely keepsake for sure!
All in all, this is a fantastic app for young children. With vibrant colors, tons of activities and their favorite characters right there with them, it will keep them occupied for ages. No more feeling guilty for letting them play with the phone or tablet, because there is so much learning involved that you’re going to want to be right there with them seeing how much they are figuring out about the world around them.
