This is a sponsored review for Firefly® toothbrushes. All opinions are my own.
When I was a kid, we didn’t have a huge amount of money, so my mom got a lot of our presents at the dollar store. We cared more about quantity than quality, so she was better off buying us a dozen small presents than one large one. Our stockings were filled with fruit for the most part, though occasionally we’d get a small handful of chocolate or other candies. But there was one gift that we got every year without fail – a new toothbrush and toothpaste set.
As we got older and circumstances improved, mom was able to give us more quality presents – gifts of tech, art and even gift cards to our favorite stores. One year, she didn’t bother with the toothbrushes. The reaction from each of us was instantaneous – we demanded satisfaction! “New toothbrushes,” we insisted! From then on, it became a family tradition. No matter what else may be under the tree, we each got a new toothbrush.
Crazy as it seems, this remains one of my favorite holiday traditions, and I do the same for my own children. Every year, they are certain to have a new toothbrush under the tree. For the last three years, we’ve bought them each a new set of Firefly® toothbrushes, a brand I was introduced to through this blog and whom I have the pleasure of working with over the next year. I’ll be sharing with you all some of our favorite products and offering feedback to the brand to help them understand what we are all looking for in our children’s oral care products. I’m so excited!
You may remember the post I did a while back about our Star Wars light-up toothbrushes. I mentioned to the brand just how much my kids LOVED them, and they were kind enough to send us some more of them, along with a few other amazing products to review. Firefly® is the leader in children’s oral care solutions, and all of their products are geared toward helping children learn to love taking care of their teeth.
You can see the video review that my older two boys put together, which gives their immediate reaction to the products and their thoughts afterward. Needless to say, they were VERY excited to take part!
All three of my kids are in different places on their tooth-brushing journeys. Dexter, at almost 6 years old, is an old pro. He loves to brush his teeth, carefully and considerately, and he was really thrilled at the new addition of “Mouth Washer” to the mix. The Anti-cavity rinse comes in great flavors, and it’s available with various 3D character heads! My boys are superhero mad, so they LOVED the Spider Man rinse. Firefly claims that it is proven to increase usage, and I can totally verify this. My kids want to use it ALL the time!
Daniel is almost 4 years old, and he’s been a tricky one to get brushing. We’ve had a difficult time getting him excited about taking care of his teeth, as he is easily distracted and ends up getting bored. I love that Firefly provides an array of interesting and interactive brushes for him. He ended up choosing one of the Ready Go Traffic Light brushes, which could not be more perfect. This is the #1 selling kids manual brush. As the name implies, it offers traffic light timed lighting. Green means ‘Go,’ Yellow means ‘Almost There,’ and Red means ‘You’re Done!’ Seeing the different light patterns not only keeps his attention on what he’s doing, but it means he is getting the thorough cleaning he wasn’t getting before. I also really love the suction cup on the bottom, which allows you to set the brush on the sink without worrying about it getting knocked off or lost. Bacteria from the bathroom counter can actually lead to gum disease or cavities! If you watch the video, you’ll see he’s pretty enthusiastic about it, too!
Chester is our youngest boy, and he just turned 2 last month. He absolutely loves his toothbrush, and he has no qualms about getting in there with the older boys and taking care of business. He copies everything they do. Obviously, at his age, he is unable to actually clean his own teeth, so we go in afterwards and help him. The only trouble at all is that he loves everyone’s toothbrushes, and he often steals them off the sink and goes off somewhere to use them! He’s especially fond of Dan’s Traffic Light brush. We have had to stop and educate the kids about the dangers of sharing toothbrushes. After all, cavities are contagious! Sharing brushes is a HUGE no-no.
We love Firefly for obvious reasons. But besides the fun the kids have with them, there are a few reasons that we, as parents, love them, too. Half of all kids in the US have dental disease, including decayed, missing or filled teeth. I’m ashamed to admit that Dexter got his first filling at age 4! It is the most common disease in children. It’s five times more common than asthma and seven times more common than hay fever! It is as big a problem as childhood obesity, though it doesn’t get nearly as much attention. In fact, it is twice as common and researchers have found a link between the rates of obesity and the dental care children receive!
This year, we’ll be gifting some of these awesome little toothbrushes to the kids, as well as various nieces and nephews, friends and schoolmates. Because nothing is quite as awesome as giving kids a reason to smile.
