Given the title and subject matter of this here blog, I think it’s safe to assume that the vast majority of you who read this are moms. And so I’m pretty convinced that if I start sharing stories of c-section scars, fourth degree tears or diaper explosions, I’m not going to scare too many of you away. But there’s still one thing that I think many of us still find a little taboo – light bladder leakage.
I mean, who wants to admit that every sneeze, cough or laugh means a puddle of piddle in our knickers? It’s embarrassing, and we all seem to think we’re the only ones who’ve ever dealt with it. So in case you are someone who needs to hear it, I’m here to tell you, “YOU ARE NOT ALONE!”
My little “problem” started soon after I gave birth to my first son. When he was just over a year old, we took him to a friend’s bbq, and they had a trampoline. All the kids wanted us to get up and jump with them. You can see where this is going. Up I went, and out came a trickle of pee. All over my white pantsuit. Mortifying.
From that point, I started to wear thin pads in my underwear just in case. But the thinnest pads are still pretty bulky. And they seem a lot like overkill when it comes right down to it. After all, it’s not like I was totally incontinent. I just had occasional leakage.
After my second and third babies were born, the problem got worse. I never wanted to play with the kids in the yard or go out hiking because I always had it in the back of my mind that I was going to wet myself. It wasn’t a debilitating thought, but the fear was there. If I did go out and play, I’d immediately stop if I got even an inkling that I might need the bathroom. What a way to live, right?
I finally realized that there had to be something better. I wanted a way to protect myself against the potential for leakage. Something small and unobtrusive that I could wear any time and that I could keep in my purse without it being obvious that I was one of those women. I wanted security and protection.
I discovered Poise Liners at Walmart one day. I was in the feminine care aisle and went a little far and discovered an entire section devoted to bladder leakage! They had Poise MicroLiners, Liners and thin-shape pads for heavier issues. The only time I had used Poise products before was right after having a baby when I’d used their very comfortable adult diapers to help me through the first few days.
But these were NOT bulky. These were specifically made to help women like me who suffer from light bladder leakage. Huzzah!
The micro-liners were made for those who need only the lightest absorbency. They are super thin and can come in regular or longer lengths. The liners (my own pick) are for those who need a tiny bit more absorbency. They are still thin and have the different lengths, but they also have absorb-loc® core quickly locks away wetness and odor to help keep you fresh and dry.
I hurried home with a whole pack of liners and was so excited when I saw how small and discreet they were. They are exactly what I needed. Now that I’ve been using them for a while, I know that they work amazingly well. I feel confident in everything I do, as I know that I’m not going to have any issues.
This summer, we have a ton of plans. We’re going to be visiting all five of Utah’s national parks, which will include a lot of hiking. We’re going to be heading back to Pennsylvania to visit my family, which will entail a LOT of playing with nieces and nephews. And since it’s Dexter’s last summer before starting kindergarten, we want to make every moment count. I know that I will be able to keep up with anything the kids want to do, and I look forward to hanging out with my boys.
Here’s a super quick video about me talking about what a hot mess mom I am and how Poise has given me a bit more confidence!
