Back in 2010 when Mark and I had been dating for only a few months, we flew from London out to Las Vegas to see a couple of his friends get married. After a week in the City of Sin, we rented a car and headed out for a long drive from Vegas to Salt Lake City to visit his family. The car we rented was a Kia Sorrento, and after driving it for a week, I have to tell you – I was in love.
After that trip, every time we headed back to the US to visit our families, we would rent a Kia. Mark used to laugh at me, but I loved it. I told him I wanted to own one some day, as they were SO roomy, SO comfortable, fit SO many bodies and were so unbelievably easy to drive. So when we moved permanently back to the US, I had my heart set on buying a Kia.
Of course, Mark told me not to be silly. He begged me never to mention “the M word” (mini van!), and to hold us over in our first days here, he found an ugly gold colored runaround car for us to use. I hated it, and I didn’t want our son in it because it just didn’t feel safe! Mark promised me it was temporary, and I believed him because that man lives to make my dreams come true. And true to his word, only a month later, he had me at the Kia dealership picking out a beautiful 2011 Kia Sedona.
Being pregnant with our second baby and facing a long trip from Florida to Pennsylvania to see my family, he knew it was the best way to keep us safe and happy.
We managed to pack for a MONTH, fitting it all into the back because of the hideaway seats. And it was a really comfortable trip, despite there being a man who hates to drive, a sickly pregnant lady and a 20 month old toddler! Can you imagine two full days in a car with that lot?! But our Kia was perfect. It drove easily (which is handy as Mark ended up doing most of the driving!), it was a comfortable ride for me and didn’t make me car sick (a sad fact of my pregnancies!) and there was plenty of space to hold Dexter’s favorite toys, videos and food!
To make a long story short, we would never have contemplated making a trip like that in any other car. But because of how perfect it was, we have actually planned yet another road trip back to Pennsylvania this coming October, this time with BOTH our boys in tow. It’s sure to be a wonderful experience.
