It’s that time of year again. We’re gearing up for New Years, and we all know what that means… another year where I resolve to diet and exercise so that I can be the size I want to be. But this year feels so different. Maybe it’s because I didn’t anticipate making that resolution this year. Until yesterday, I had MUCH bigger plans for the coming year than losing a bit of weight. Namely, Mark and I had decided to go ahead and get started on baby number 2.
But something gave me pause about the whole idea…
I’m still two dress sizes bigger than my pre-pregnancy weight, and if I get pregnant next month (which was the hope!), there’s no chance at all of starting a proper diet for probably another two years! And given that I wasn’t even happy with my pre-pregnancy weight, I can’t see me being in a very good state of mind if my weight goes up that high again…
So as a gift to myself and because all the stars are aligned, I have decided to dedicate the next six months (starting January 1st, 2012) to becoming a happier, healthier, thinner, fitter gal than I currently am. I am going to write about my journey and hope that by making good decisions in diet and exercise, I will be able to get the end result I am hoping for.
Now I am not going to set a specific weight goal, as I think that is bogus. I bet if I get back to my lowest weight, I still wouldn’t be in the same size clothes that I was… my body has just changed too much since having a baby, and this “mummy tummy” is going to be hard to shift.
So instead of watching the numbers on that ungodly scale go up or down each week, I am going to monitor my progress through photos and good old fashioned measuring tape. Yep. I’ll be writing more on this later, trying to keep track of my efforts by blogging about them for the whole world to see. But for now, I am still in the planning stages.
And one of the GLORIOUS things that the planning stage holds?? SHOPPING FOR WORKOUT CLOTHES! WOO!
So I heard that Davina McCall is teaming up with Next to launch a new line of workout and post-workout clothes, as well as a bunch of shoes which will feature F.I.T technology to reduce load-bearing stress on joints and provide additional support. Now I love me some Davina McCall. I’ve done her workout DVD in the past, and I love her enthusiasm. And her personal style is something I’ve often admired. So who better to guide me to feeling stylish AND comfortable AND supported in my ongoing fitness endeavours that the lovely Davina, who herself has fought the battle of the mummy tummy…
And ohmygosh, just look at what is on offer! There is something for everyone here. I personally couldn’t use the first item, as my boobs are way too big and the belly below would be a-wibbling like jelly. But the sweatpants look just up my alley, as do all three of the shirts. Number 3 would hide my ugly shoulders, number 4 is not too tight over the tummy, and number 5 would make me feel girly and sexy.
As for the shoes. OH. MY. GOD. I am SO a shoe girl. And I love every one of these. For practicality, since I have flat feet and intend to run, I think number 7 would be great. But numbers 6 and 8 would make me feel funky and COOL. And number 9… well that would make this frumpy stay at home mother feel like a real sex kitten again!
Davina says: “My approach was to concentrate on what I would wear. I’ve thought very carefully about the details that matter to me, like a place for an MP3 player, or reflective strips on the bottoms – essential when you’re jogging in the early morning or at dusk. And I’ve ensured the workout tops are extremely solid and secure so your boobs won’t be bobbing around while you’re working out!”
Well the truth is that I will never have a body like Davina’s. But I can sure feel pretty and fit in my own way, and when I get my hands on some of this swag, I will be sure to use it but not abuse it.
It almost makes putting off having a baby SO worth it. After all, buying maternity-wear was NEVER this much fun!
