Pregnancy Diary – 21 Weeks

21 week pregnancy bump

Another week has flown by, and the big news this week is that we’ve got officially LESS time left in the pregnancy than I’ve already BEEN pregnant! Huzzah!

According to various online sources, the baby is now weighing in at a whopping ONE POUND! Glad to know that that 25+ lbs I’ve gained is more fat than baby! D’oh!

Unfortunately, this week has brought a couple of issues with it. On Sunday, we went hiking at Rimrock, which was an amazing family bonding day, but which was probably a bit silly in retrospect, as once we got home, my tummy was feeling decidedly pained, and unfortunately I had quite a bit of bleeding. When it hadn’t gone in 18 hours, I finally called my doctor in Florida to get advice. I was told that I needed to return back there ASAP so that I could be seen.

In my last pregnancy, I had some bleeding several times which turned out to be my placenta detaching. The doctor this time immediately jumped on this as a possible cause of the bleeding, and I must admit it is a concern. I don’t want – and more importantly am unABLE – to be on bed rest or light activity this time around, as having a toddler pretty much means I am forced to lift, carry, run and climb more than I’d like! I asked advice as to how to deal, but the doctor was not very helpful, telling me I needed to ask for more help and let others do the work. He even told me I shouldn’t drive!

Anyway, within a day the bleeding had stopped, and besides a bit of pain, I am feeling much better. But to be safe, we have decided to cut short our visit home and go back to Florida this weekend. As such, we are leaving on Sunday morning.  I’m really sad – especially as I wanted so much for Dexter to be taken Trick-or-Treating by my dad this year. But alas, everyone is in agreement that it is better to go and be close to my doctor “just in case.”

As for everything else, this week has seen some blessed relief of my constipation issues last week. Granted, it has taken all the way until TODAY to get that relief (the highest dose of colace three days in a row didn’t do squat!!) but I am grateful to no longer be so bound up.

Nothing much else going on. We are still undecided on a name for the baby – nothing seems right! At this rate, we’ll be having to wait until the baby is actually born to name him!!

  1. We waited for our middle son to be born before we named him. Not such a bad idea really. It is really hard but you do have to try to take it easy for a bit, if only to conserve some energy. Sorry you have had to finish your break a bit early. Take care. xxx

  3. So glad all is well now! I know how hard it is to take it easy, but try!!! And the name thing, don’t get me started. We have only ever agreed on names at the very end, in fact my husband refuses to discuss them at all until the very last minute! With my son he waited until I was in theatre before he relented and let me have my choice!!
