Looking at me now, you might never guess that I have suffered a severe lack of confidence because of my skin. Since I was a baby, and getting worse as I got older, my skin was itchy, flaky and at times scaly and cracked! When I was in school, some of the meaner kids took to calling me Godzilla or Lizard Skin. Not particularly imaginative stuff, but when you’re young, these things stick with you.
As I got older and researched, I started to understand the need to hydrate and moisturize your skin. I learned about tricks like exfoliation and putting on lotion directly after a bath to make it work better. But no matter how hard I scrubbed at my skin (and believe me, I tried everything, including using a pumice stone over my entire body!) and what lotion I used, I could not get the skin I desired.
Winter is the worst. Something about the cold mixed with super dry air means that skin starts to suffer. Even those who have no big issues will often find that winter makes their skin drier. For me, beginning around October every year and ending in late May, my skin decides to revolt. It gets itchy and flaky, and it’s basically disgusting. But this year, I have been amazed at how different an experience it has been.
It all started last April when I attended the Mom 2.0 blogging conference in Scottsdale, AZ. As part of the event, they had a celebrity dermatologist who was offering free consultations. And though I’ve spent my whole life looking for answers to my skin care, it was only then that I finally worked up the courage to talk to a professional. I was nearly in tears as I told her of my issues. I explained my skincare regime (all the exfoliation and twice daily moisturizing), and I crossed my fingers that she’d have the answer. She did.
My issues were all too familiar to her, it seemed. She was very kind as she explained that what I was doing was actually more harmful to my skin. She made several suggestions that I was able to implement right away.
First, she told me to stop exfoliating like a mad woman. She suggested a soft bristled body brush rubbed in circles over my skin just before a bath. This was enough to slough off the dead skin and make it more hospitable to the moisturizing process.
She suggested a thick, creamy moisturizer that contained lactic acid. She assured me that this would pull double duty as an exfoliator and moisturizer. And though she was reticent to recommend a particular brand, when pressed for her opinion, she immediately suggested AmLactin.
She also counseled me that hydrating from inside and out was extremely important. Drinking lots of water every day (as often as I could stand it) and having a humidifier in my room would definitely help. She said even just putting bowls of water in rooms could add extra hydration to the air. She said that ingesting a teaspoon of coconut oil (or even coconut oil tablets) every day could benefit my skin, and she gave me several vitamin combinations, as well.
You can imagine my excitement. Before I’d even left the conference, I was on Amazon ordering three huge bottles of AmLactin and investing in a body brush.
When they arrived, I immediately began what would be my new beauty regime.
AmLactin was amazing. I learned very quickly not to use it right after shaving my legs (it can burn pretty badly for several seconds), but from the very first use, I was hooked. My skin, so rough and bumpy and ugly to behold became something soft and supple. And it lasted! Other lotions I’d tried would make my skin feel slightly softer for a little while, but within a few hours, it would be dried out again.
AmLactin made me confident. Within a month, I felt like a new woman. I wore shorts outside for the first time in YEARS. I allowed my husband to run his hands over my legs, something I usually would scold him for because I felt so self-conscious. The difference was amazing.
Going into winter this year, I started to worry. Sure the lotion worked well in the summer, but could it really keep up with my winter nightmare? Quite simply, the answer is yes. It works. I have not had a moment’s pause about the product at all this winter, and it has been so cold and dry this year. My winter regime is no harder than my summer one.
Honestly, I am hooked.

AmLactin® Cerapeutic™ Restoring Body Lotion is a clinically proven body lotion with the intensely hydrating, triple action, patented ULTRAPLEX® formula and three essential ceramides to gently slough off dead skin cells and strengthen the skin’s protective moisture barrier. Ceramides are naturally found in the skin’s vulnerable outer layer and help retain moisture. This formula heals extremely rough, flaky, dry skin and provides instant, visible results and 24-hour relief. Dry skin may lack ceramides and as a result, the skin’s protective moisture barrier may be vulnerable to drying environmental and lifestyle factors, age-related dry skin, and irritants. Applying ceramides to the skin topically can help replenish the skin’s vulnerable moisture barrier.
AmLactin® Foot Cream is for rough, dry and callused feet. It heals, repairs and softens dry, callused skin on the whole foot.
