I guess it’s no secret that when it comes to tech, our family has more than its fair share. With a husband who has been a Professional Computer Geek his whole life, it seems that most of our disposable income goes toward making our home an energy-efficient Smart Home.
Nearly all of our appliances and entertainment equipment comes from the retailer, and we love that products are constantly evolving to be smarter and more energy efficient. They offer a variety of appliances that come with the ENERGY STAR® certification because they are committed to offering sustainable products. Products that are labeled as ENERGY STAR have met certain guidelines that show they use reduced energy and are therefore better for the environment. They can also save you money on your utility bill because they use less energy to run!
My husband has this fantasy that one day in the near future, we’ll be totally self-sustaining and despite the high costs of energy, our home will cost very little to run. We’ve already invested in an ENERGY STAR certified dryer. Knowing that a dryer can be one of the most energy-demanding devices in a home, we looked for one that would help keep our bills down. The right dryer can use up to 20% less energy than conventional models while still having amazing features and performance. If all dryers sold in the United States were ENERGY STAR certified, we would save a collective $1.5BILLION in utility costs each year and prevent greenhouse gases equivalent to 2 MILLION vehicles!
Of course it isn’t just large home appliances that can be energy efficient. High on our wish list is a new Sound Bar. Maybe even two of them. My husband is desperate for one for his “man cave” which is also our home theatre. He has a great surround sound, but he keeps insisting that he’s missing a good sound bar. And in truth, our living room with our newly bought 65-inch Smart TV (also from Best Buy) could definitely use its own sound bar. And as always, we’ll be looking for an ENERGY STAR certified bar.
Did you know that in 2015, Best Buy customers purchased enough ENERGY STAR certified Audio Equipment and Sound Bars to collectively help prevent the greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to removing 2,013 cars from the road for an entire year?? I’m excited to see how that number will grow each year! To learn more tips about saving energy, check out this video.
