Superhero Party Ideas – Superman Cupcakes
If you thought my Batman Chocolate Cupcakes were great, then you’re going to LOVE these Superman Cupcakes. With everyone super excited about the new Batman vs Superman movie, I know my boys are ready to pick their side in the epic battle.
Of course, it means that any superhero party we may or may not have is going to need a cupcake for each team. So it’s only right that we create an equally amazing Superman Cupcake to be fair to all involved.
We went with a chocolate cake for our Dark Knight, but Superman is all sweetness and light, so we chose a vanilla version for him.
Here’s what you’ll need:
Cupcake Recipe:
1/2 C unsalted butter (room temp)
2 eggs whites
2 eggs
2 C flour
1 tbs baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking soda
3/4 C buttermilk
1 1/2 C sugar
1 tsp vanilla
Preheat the oven to 350°. Line the cupcake tins with paper liners. We did red and white stripes, but you can choose any color you fancy. We were going for a LOOK, here.
Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Set aside.
In a bowl, cream together the butter and sugar with an electric mixer. Add vanilla extract. Slowly add egg whites, one at a time, beating after each one. Then add the eggs, beating again.
Alternate adding the flour mixture and buttermilk to the butter and sugar mix, beating on low speed.
Use an ice cream scoop to add batter into the lined cupcake tins until 2/3 full.
Bake for 20 – 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool for 10 – 15 minutes and then remove from the tin to a wire rack and let cool completely.
Next up is the frosting. Again, you can use premade stuff, but it’s so much better when you make your own! I use my basic vanilla frosting recipe and add blue and red gel coloring.
Frosting Recipe:
4 C powdered sugar
1 C unsalted butter, soft
4 TBSP heavy whipping cream
1 tsp vanilla
Blue gel food coloring
Red gel food coloring
In a bowl, cream together the butter and sugar. Add the vanilla and heavy whipping cream and beat it all together until well combined.
Separate the frosting into two halves. Add red gel coloring to one and blue to the other and stir to blend.
Scoop the blue frosting into a pastry bag with a frosting tip at the end. Turn it a little and then add the red frosting into the bag next to it. Twist the open end of the pastry bag to push the frosting to the tip and then frost the cupcakes.
*Hint: a plastic baggie works if you don’t have a pastry bag. Just add the frosting and cut off a corner.
You can add any decorations that you like. I used royal icing to draw the Superman logo and then let it harden before adding it on top of my frosted cakes. You could find plastic decorations that kids might like, but I always worry about choking hazards, so I prefer an all-edible version.
That’s all there is to it! Amazing Superman Cupcakes to please your Superhero aficionado!
