I doubt there’s many mothers or expectant moms out there who haven’t heard of and/or read the BIBLE of pregnancy –What to Expect® When You’re Expecting. It’s the go-to tome for all us ladies (and many men!) who want to know exactly what is happening inside of our bodies day to day, week to week, and month to month, as well as how to prepare for the birth of our children and life ongoing as a new mom.
With three children under my belt, I will happily admit that this book series has been a staple in our home for the last five years! It is a book/series that is referenced in pretty much every single pregnancy-themed movie EVER, and it’s for a good reason. After all, it has spent 600+ record-breaking weeks on the New York Times Bestseller list! That’s eleven and a half years!
What to Expect® When You’re Expecting is the bestselling pregnancy book, recommended by moms and doctors alike. When I fell pregnant with my first son, I had this book with me at all times. My husband and I spent many hours each week perusing through the chapters, figuring out where we were in our journey and what was to come next. We checked and double-checked it for advice whenever something didn’t feel right. The sense of comfort it gave me was immense. This is a book that answers pretty much every question a mother-to-be could have! As far as I’m concerned, it is as essential as anything else you need for a healthy pregnancy.
Of course, the What to Expect® series doesn’t just serve you through pregnancy, but beyond! I’ve consulted the various books for all sorts of advice as my kids got older. And each successive pregnancy has seen me re-familiarising myself with the knowledge that has somehow passed out of my system since the last pregnancy, while also getting new ideas about what my older sons were going through. With What To Expect® the First Year and What to Expect® the Second Year in your collection, you’re basically guaranteed to have amazing advice when you really need it.
The books cover pretty much every aspect of pregnancy, new motherhood and raising a toddler that you could hope for. Perhaps my favorite, though is the awesome Eating Well When You’re Expecting, which is a really great handbook to have with you if you are looking to have the healthiest pregnancy.
I don’t think there’s a more enduring book in this age that has helped so many women – me included! What about you? Did you read any of the series when YOU were pregnant? Which was your favorite? Do you recommend it to other moms? I know I do!
