You may remember my earlier post with some tips on how to make your home more energy efficient. Well this week, Mark and I have been working on ways to put theory into practice and conserve energy around the home.
And let me tell you something… saving energy is SEXY!
It started out small… We already have energy efficient lightbulbs everywhere, and we have always been the type of people who turn the lights off when leaving a room. And we will usually let natural sunlight suffice for day time activities. But once the sun goes down (which at this time of year is quite early), we’re left with a predicament… Sit in the dark or turn on the lights?
But wahey! Why not create a romantic ambiance and light candles instead?? No energy wasted, and it has the added bonus of making me appear softer and more mysterious than I really am… or so I would like to think…
And then there’s that pesky thermostat… With winter upon us, it is a constant battle to keep the house warm. We recently installed all new windows to make our home more energy efficient, but it can still get pretty cold in here. It’s hard to be romantic when you’re shivering so hard you can’t speak. So out came my Genuine Imitation Bear Skin Rug Blanket™ and the cuddling commenced. And let me tell you, the blanket wasn’t the only thing heating things up! My man can CUDDLE!
But cuddling can sometimes get a bit dull if you’re doing it every night. So most of the time, we wind up watching our 52 inch flat screen or surfing the web on our computers… And that is a HUGE electricity suck! So what could we do instead that wouldn’t use up electricity?
Mark suggested board games. But we’ve only got a dodgy Monopoly set with most of the pieces missing… So we were stuck playing cards instead…
Luckily we got creative and managed to find a way to make it MUCH more interesting than the TV!
When we got down to it, though, we realised that electricity wasn’t the only thing we’ve been wasting. I mean, I do the dishes EVERY DAY, and that wastes water. Not to mention that the boiler has to heat the water up… So I racked my brain to come up with a solution.
And suddenly I had it! I couldn’t waste water if there were no dishes to do, right?! So I grabbed a tub of fresh baby tomatoes and a punnet of grapes, and I fed my man tasty morsels with my bare hands. No fuss, no mess!
But after we’d glutted ourselves on our fresh produce, another thought occurred to me… I don’t just waste water when doing the dishes, but with daily showers and baths for the three of us, a huge amount gets wasted as well!
There was only one thing for it… SHOWER TOGETHER!
There are some obvious benefits to this scheme, but the main one has to be that less water is wasted and time is saved for other activities. Like… laundry….
Another in a long line of necessary activities that waste water. I mean, our clothes get dirty when we wear them. They must be washed before we can wear them again.
We just don’t wear clothes…
That’s it! I’m instating NAKED WEEKENDS from now on!
Got any more ideas on how to make energy saving sexy? I’d love to hear them!
