One thing I’ve learned over the last seven years as a mom of boys is that they can wear out shoes faster than you can chew a piece of gum. I was warned that kids’ feet grow fast, but no one warned me that they wouldn’t even have a chance to outgrow their shoes before they tore them to pieces. With all the running, jumping, climbing and chasing they do, I’ve learned not to get too attached to any particular pair of shoes. And forget about seeing them passed down from oldest to youngest. My four boys range in age from 2 months to seven years old, and I always have to buy shoes new for each kid. Well, almost always.
The exception is with Stride Rite shoes. We bought some a few years ago, and wouldn’t you know that they are the only shoes that have lasted through each of my boys. It’s lovely to line them up and see a progression of my kids’ lives through the last few years, knowing that each one has worn the shoes of his big brother at some point.
Now it is time for our newest baby to prepare for the day when he’ll begin walking. While he’s a little young as yet, I know the time goes fast, so I headed out to Target to pick up his first pair of Surprize by Stride Rite shoes. Jumbled together in the infant section is a selection of shoes just perfect for every stage of a baby’s progression.
One of the main reasons we love these shoes so much is that they look so incredibly cute, but they are as durable as they can be. They have a perfect fit, generous for most medium and wide widths, with rounded toes and traction pods to reduce falls and tumbles. They have really simple closures so that kids can take their shoes on and off by themselves, and let me remind you that kids always want to do things for themselves. My kids rave about how comfortable they are, and I know this is partly due to the memory foam footbed and the flexible outsoles that fit the shape and movement of the foot. And as every mom of boys knows, little feet can get rather stanky! So I am especially grateful for the anti-stink lining of these shoes!
Every time I look at Baby Wilder, I think he’s grown another few centimeters. The time goes so quickly, and he’s going to be mobile before I know it. Each of my kids has walked sooner than the last, and this kid is already standing for up to a minute on his own, so it wouldn’t surprise me if he beat the record.
Since this baby is definitely our last, I am excited to experience all of his milestones as they come. From the first time he rolls over (he’s so close already!) to the first time he sits up, crawls and eventually walks. I know that we’ll be ready to give him the best start with these shoes, as they are the best you can get.
Surprize by Stride Rite are available in-store and online from Target, and I can’t recommend them enough to any mom preparing for her baby to take his first steps into toddlerhood. I get more excited picking out baby shoes than I do picking out some for myself!
Eventually, I know that my kids will outgrow their shoes for good. We won’t be able to keep them forever. But I hope that Baby Wilder will get to make his way through the many pairs that have come before him. He may have his first pair brand new, but after that, I know he’ll be in hand-me-downs from his big brothers, and that is something that only works with a good quality brand like Surprize by Stride Rite.
