I spent the last weekend of our holidays working to get my craft room in order. Ever since we moved here, all of my crafting stuff has been in boxes downstairs. I tried in the first few weeks after our move to organize it, but the only space we had was in the room that houses our furnace, and it was a pretty dingy place. So as you can imagine, though all my stuff was in there, I never actually used it. Over time, it has just become filled with all the junk we had no place else for.
So this past weekend, Mark cleaned out the garage and made room for all that junk so that I could FINALLY get my craft room in order. I will reveal the amazing transformation a bit later, but right now I wanted to share one of the projects I did for it.
I found this AMAZING little entertainment center at the Goodwill store in Clermont, Florida early last year. It was a STEAL at $35! I saw it from across the store just as they were putting it out, and I raced over and bought it on the spot. At the time, I’d just found out I was pregnant, and I was CONVINCED it would be a girl (ah, how wrong I was!), and I thought it would be just perfect to make into a wardrobe for her room.

Isn’t it lovely? When you opened it up, there were a couple little cubby holes and a big gaping hole in the back. I am not positive, but I believe this was a TV cabinet in another life, but I had no intention of making it so again.

It has been housing various odds and ends for several months, mostly my collection of crystals and tarot cards. Yep, I’m one of THOSE people.
Anyway, inspired by Regina’s office in the show Once Upon a Time, I was REALLY keen to find a way to have a really elegant room with lots of black, white and grey. So when I found this awesome wallpaper at Target, I was inspired. I thought I could transform this cabinet into something special.
I love it because it is removable, so at any point I can try something new. Which is a good thing because I DID have a little trouble with the mirrors. The wallpaper was a bit pricey at $30 for a small roll (and I ended up using all of it!), but it is much better than my original plan of painting the cabinet (the thought of all the prep work for that makes my head spin!).
I lined up the wallpaper along the sides and used a craft knife to cut it at the right points. The sides of the cabinet were beadboard, so getting a flat look was slightly difficult, but it worked.
I also decided to cover the mirrors. I wound up sticking the wallpaper over them and then using the knife to cut out the intricate design. It is definitely not an exact job. And I wound up with a couple of bubbles in the paper that I can’t seem to remove. GRR. I realized later that I could have just opened the doors and unscrewed the wood that was holding the mirrors on, and I could have papered from behind. Ah well. Live and learn!
I’m still SUPER pleased with the end result!

It looks SO gorgeous now. Especially with the grey paint on the walls and the set up I have now.

It was also important to me that the storage inside be good. After all, those little cubbies at the bottom were great, but on top of that was just a big bunch of space. So I found some really cute canvas bins on clearance at Lowes for only $3 each! I knew they would be perfect. They also had some black and white chevron bins that would have matched perfectly, but I couldn’t justify the much higher price. Ah well.
As you can see, they look great in there. I also used some plain black plastic storage bins I found at Target (again, on clearance) to house bulkier items. I think the inside is MUCH nicer now than before!

I am SO pleased by how this turned out. I really love the unit, and because everything is easily removed, I can always change it up later. How cool is that?!
Do you have any awesome furniture transformations you’ve done? Leave me some inspiration in the comments!
